[Quy Nhon, Vietnam] \u2013 Within the framework of the IUC-QNU Project, Quy Nhon University recently became a hotspot for academic enlightenment as Prof. Dr. Kristiaan Temst graced its campus with a four-day “Supervisory Skills Workshop”. This educational extravaganza, held from September 19 to 22, 2023, brought together all the local team leaders and Ph.D students supervisors hungry for the secrets of successful supervision and academic leadership.<\/p>\n

The workshop was structured into four comprehensive sessions, each offering valuable insights into different facets of supervision and research mentorship.<\/p>\n

Session 1: The profile of the good promoter and the good PhD student:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Delving into the roles and responsibilities of PhD students and supervisors, this session explored their rights and duties. It also addressed the broader purpose of a PhD, the distinctions in supervising bachelor and master’s students, and provided guidance on conflict resolution.<\/p>\n

Session 2: Follow up of a PhD:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Focused on the progression of a PhD journey, this session covered reporting, formal evaluation processes, strategies for handling challenges, crafting effective data management plans, and honing generic skills essential for success.<\/p>\n

Session 4: Upholding Scientific Integrity<\/strong><\/p>\n

Tackling the vital theme of scientific integrity, this session outlined fundamental ethical principles, discussed author contributions to research papers, and provided guidance on addressing scientific misconduct. These four sessions collectively enriched the participants’ understanding and skills, ensuring they left the workshop empowered and enlightened.<\/p>\n
