Implementing the working plan for the 1st<\/sup> year of sub-projects 3 and 5 (IUC-QNU Phase 1), the QNU delegation including Dr. Bui Hong Hai and Dr. Cao Tan Binh had a short \u2013 term visit from 12th<\/sup> to 23rd<\/sup> May, 2023 at \u00a0Ghent University (UGent) located in Ghent, Kingdom of Belgium. The purpose of this trip was not only to visit some farms and agricultural production facilities in Ghent to exchange and learn about sustainable farming models, but also to visit some relavant laboratories at UGent to discuss about future collaboration.
\nThe QNU delegation was warmly welcomed, supported and provided with favorable conditions by the professors at UGent to visit various farms and agricultural production facilities, including:
\n(i) Gemaflor – a family-owned business specializing in vineyard cultivation and champagne production (Wijndomein Vandersteene) – which was voted as the best wine in Belgium in 2021. (Website: www.gemaflor.eu<\/a>)
\n(ii) Appelpers Lerouge Zevergem – a farm specializing in apple cultivation, apple juice production, and apple-related products as well as providing related agricultural services and showcasing sustainable organic farming practices. At Coupure Campus \u00a0(UGent), Dr. Bui Hong Hai visited the laboratories of Prof. Danny Geelen (www.horticell.ugent.be)\u00a0and Prof. Monica H\u00f6fte. During the visit, they discussed about the research directions \u00a0of sub-project 3 and \u00a0some proposed activities for the upcoming years, such as training PhD students or \u00a0planning short-term internships of QNU staff at UGent\u2019s laboratories. Taking advantage of the participation in the Symposium of Crop Protection annually organized by UGent for 75 years, Dr. Bui Hong Hai had a brief dicussion with Prof. Monica H\u00f6fte\u2019s colleagues about relavant research topics as well as cooperation opportunities.<\/p>\n
