Subproject 3 surveyed the current cultivation of avocado and durian in Gia Lai province
Implementing the work plan of 2023, Subproject 3 of the University Institutional Cooperation Program of Quy Nhon University granted by VLIR-UOS (Belgium) (IUC-QNU) carried out an investigation trip in Chu Se, Chu Pah districts and Pleiku city, Gia Lai province from November 30th to December 3rd, 2023. The delegation was led by Dr. Bui Hong Hai – Subroject 3 leader and participation members including Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vo Minh Thu, Dr. Truong Thi Hue, Dr. Huynh Thi Thanh Tra and MSc. Phan Hoai Vy.
Through survey forms and direct interviews, the delegations collected information on the current cultural situation, farming regime, soil management, scion-rootstock, pest and disease management, using fertilizers, biostimulants and growth regulators for avocado and durian farmers in Ia Blang and Ia Pal communes of Chu Se district, Ia Ka commune, Nghia Hung commune of Chu Pah district and Gao commune of Pleiku city, Gia Lai province. Besides collecting information on the current farming status, the delegation also recorded feedback and demands of farmers about farming techniques. These references will be used for implementing the research plans of Subproject 3 in a practical, realistic pathway.
Within the framework of the investigating trip, the delegation also discussed the work packages and activity plan of Subproject 3 with the Agricultural Service Centers of Chu Se and Chu Pah districts and Pleiku city. The delegation received high appreciation and the enthusiastic support of specialized officers, agricultural extension officers, alumni, and a master student at the Centers and communes where the survey took place. Dr. Bui Hong Hai and delegation members also negotiated with farmers about terms to sign the contract for renting avocado and durian orchards to implement research experiments.
The effective collaboration with the Agricultural Service Centers, Commune People’s Committee and enthusiastic support from specialized officers, agricultural extension officers, alumni, and master student, the investigating trip completed the proposed plan. The business trip results will strengthen the connection with partnerships and promote subsequent activities of the Subproject.
