Introduction to the project 7
Establishing a sustainable institutional waste management system at Quy Nhon University
Along with the national development, Quy Nhon University (QNU) has constantly improved the quality of training and research to meet the human resource requirements of the South Central Coast and Central Highland regions, as well as the country. In addition to focusing on the improvement of the quality of education and research, the University has paid much attention to upgrading and developing the internal services to better serve the education and research activities and make the campus a beautiful, green and clean landscape. In the IUC programme, QNU is focusing on developing the laboratory safety system and the sustainable waste management system with the introduction of good laboratory practices, good waste management practices, and the upgrade of laboratory safety equipment/utilities. By doing so, we expect to improve laboratory safety, laboratory management and waste management on the campus and inspire local communities with a sustainable institutional waste management system.
To achieve the above objectives, in the next 10 years, with the support from VLIR-UOS and the wholehearted support from the Flemish institutions, particularly HOGent through the IUC programme, QNU will gradually upgrade laboratory services, establish a center unit for Safety and Waste Management, and build an on-site organic waste treatment system. More importantly, the University will organize training sessions on Good Lab Practices and Waste Management Practices and establish appropriate regulations for activities related to laboratory safety and waste management. In the long run, propaganda activities on sustainable waste management will be stimulated to raise awareness of the local communities.

It is expected that after the ten-year implementation of the IUC programme, QNU will become an institutional model in waste management and have a modern and safe laboratory system. In particular, the successful implemention of this institutional project is foreseen to stimulate more local organizations and communities working on sustainable waste management and proper waste classification, reduce, reuse and recycling.
